Navy Federal and the National Flag Foundation Team Up on Light to Unite Initiative for America’s 250th Anniversary

To celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary, Navy Federal Credit Union is proudly the national presenting sponsor of the National Flag Foundation’s Light to Unite initiative and a programming partner of America250.

The credit union and the National Flag Foundation are encouraging communities, households, businesses and buildings nationwide to light up the night on July 4 in red, white and blue in honor of this historic event.

“We’re honored to support National Flag Foundation through Light to Unite as a meaningful way for communities to come together,” said Joe Bock, vice president of brand strategy at Navy Federal Credit Union. “We hope people everywhere will join us and be part of this shared moment of unity.”

On July 4 at 9 pm ET, community members and cities nationwide can get involved by illuminating their homes, buildings and landmarks in red, white and blue, as well as flying the American Flag throughout the day. Participants are also encouraged to share photos and videos of their illuminated homes, buildings and landmarks on their social media channels to help create a collective display of remembrance across the nation. Endorsed by America250, Light to Unite is supported by a broad coalition of national, civic, labor and Veterans organizations, including the National League of Cities, American Gold Star Mothers, American Legion, AMVETS, Disabled American Veterans, International Association of Fire Chiefs, United Steelworkers, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Vietnam Veterans of America, Scouting America and many more.

“This initiative presents a unique opportunity for establishing a common ground for all Americans in these historically divisive times,” said National Flag Foundation Chairman Romel L. Nicholas.

Additionally, the Flag Sojourn 250 campaign, a multi-year national odyssey to touch all Americans, while honoring the American Flag in recognition of the nation’s history, will end on July 4 in Washington, DC. Since Flag Day, June 14, 2025, the Flag has traveled to all 26 US military cemeteries in 10 countries, plus US territories in the Pacific and the Atlantic. The Flag returned to the US on Oct. 8, 2025, and with assistance from the National Sheriffs’ Association, the Flag will be presented to the America250 Committee and raised in the heart of the nation on July 4 in the District.
